Marques Simmons (pronounced MAR-cus SIM-muns) boasts a 1.55 10-yard dash and a 4.49 40-yard dash time, ranking him as one of the fastest Huskers on the team. He is a powerful running back and enters fall listed even with junior Josh Davis, behind returning senior starters Dahrran Diedrick and Thunder Collins on the depth chart. Simmons is expected to have an opportunity to show his skills on the field this fall as he could also return kickoffs.
Personal: The son of Clancy and Diane Simmons, Marques was born on Aug. 1, 1982. Clancy is the principal at Davenport Central, while Diane is the coordinator of student teachers at the University of Northern Iowa. Clancy was one of the top track athletes in Iowa history, competing in the sprints and jumps. He was invited to the 1972 U.S. Olympic team trials and posted a 53-foot best in the triple jump. He also played professional baseball in the minor leagues.
